Environmental campaigners criticized the energy minister for approving the government’s climate plan without evidence of feasibility.

Consequently, the High Court mandated a plan revision. In response, a Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokesperson highlighted UK climate achievements, dismissing the lawsuit as inefficient for net zero progress. Friends of the Earth, ClientEarth, and The Good Law Project initiated the legal challenge.

Tony Bosworth of Friends of the Earth called the ruling embarrassing, urging a robust, fair plan without leaving anyone behind. This follows a 2022 case where the Net Zero Plan was deemed insufficiently detailed.

Despite adjustments, concerns persisted, leading to the recent court ruling. Mr. Justice Sheldon highlighted policy ambiguity, with a reassessment deadline pending. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, though unaware of specifics, expressed pride in climate efforts.
