A consistent reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the environment through the conscious use of lighting.

World Environment Day, celebrated every year on June 5, becomes an opportunity for Tigotà, a nationwide Italian brand specializing in the sale of cosmetics, personal care, and home care products, to disclose data collected in more than a year of its innovative approach with respect to energy conservation in its 687 owned stores.

The company, which in June 2022 had started a trial by lowering lighting by 30 percent in favor of natural light in half of the stores, has now made the operation structural, considerably reducing CO2 emissions into the environment.

In addition to the careful use of light, by turning it off at predetermined times of day to take advantage of natural lighting, the company has introduced a more careful use of air conditioning systems by adjusting the times and temperature.

The operation as a whole has resulted in a reduction of 1035 tons of CO2, an important achievement considering that Italy produces 355 million tons of carbon dioxide a year and that every Italian emits 5.5 tons a year.

«That of reducing artificial lighting in favor of natural lighting is a choice that takes a concrete look at responsible resource consumption», says Tiziano Gottardo, president of Tigotà, «The experimentation and subsequent transition to the structural application phase of the initiative have enabled us to raise awareness internally among our employees about their ecological footprint».

In addition to policies related to responsible resource consumption, the company has also made the store lighting system more efficient thanks to the relamping project, which has seen the company engaged in replacing more than 100 thousand old-generation light bulbs with less energy-impactful LEDs in stores throughout the country. For each relamping intervention, it was possible to cut electricity consumption by about 50 percent, with an estimated exchange value in terms of emissions of 500 tons of CO2 saved per year.

«The 5,000 staff members who work with us have enthusiastically accepted all the indications regarding relamping, a sign that we are in a moment of great change on the environmental policy front, where everyone is now called upon to take action with simple but tangible deeds».
