Ehb, by 2050 hydrogen will represent 25% of the demand in EU and UK

Hydrogen will represent up to 25% of the energy demand in the EU and the UK.

It emerged in a new study by European Hydrogen Backbone, which estimates a 2,300 TWh increase in gas demand. According to EhB, the EU and the UK are «potentially able to meet this demand through domestic production and with the possibility of importing hydrogen from neighboring countries».

The methane pipelines – it is explained – represent «the most convenient form of transport compared to other modes such as by sea or by power lines». The study integrates the recent Ehb map, which has identified an infrastructure for the transport of hydrogen in Europe of approximately 40,000 km by 2040, connecting 19 Member States, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
