When you think about Australia, one of your first thought is about koala. They’re so cute that they have reached a leading role in commercials, movies and books. Nevertheless, koalas are now in danger, so Australian government decide to spend 45 million dollars to save them. According to Australian Koala Foundation, there are only 43.000 examples of koala bears who live still free. Before humans’ colonization of the island, they were over ten million.

Gladys Berejiklian, Prime Minister of Southern New Galles, said that «Koalas are a national treasure», announcing his government’s plan to save the little bears. «It would be a pity if this marsupial, an icon of our country, did not have a certain future» claimed the Prime Minister. Koalas are threatened by the loss of their habitat, pollution from cars, climate changes and diseases. According to some reports, during the last 20 years koalas’ population has suffered a decrease of 26% in the New Galles.
Government’s plan will save koalas’ habitat, fighting against diseases that strike these little bears, like chlamydia. Indeed this kind of illness makes koalas blind or infertile, leading them to death. 45 million’s fund will be used also in research to help these marsupials in roads and hospitals. Government’s decision embraces a report, published in 2016, that warned about koala’s decline
