The Florian Hotel has sprung up in Amsterdam, whose goals are to save money, be pollution-free and self-sufficient.

The highlight of this hotel is having a real solar power plant, in order to save money and not pollute, but also to overcome the difficulty of energy companies to supply such a large amount of electricity to a building.

This building is located close to Schiphol Airport, and is housed in an old office building. Heating, air conditioning, kitchens and all other facilities inside are electrified. Charging stations are also provided for cars.

The idea for this hotel was born out of necessity. In fact, this structure being of a large size, it was difficult to find an electricity company that could properly supply all the energy needed to run it. This problem is occurring more and more frequently in the European Union.

Eaton, a company specialising in energy management, is the one who designed and built a solar power plant for the hotel. The components are; solar panels on the roof, storage facilities to provide power when the sun is not shining and software to manage the supply to the hotel between the grid, panels and storage facilities.

Thanks to this innovation, pollution in the hotel has dropped considerably. In 2022, CO2 emissions were reduced by more than 15 tonnes compared to the average for a building of similar size.
