In the last days Florida was hit by hurricane Milton, a tropycal cyclon and one of the most extreme events in the last few years.
Causes
The main cause of the hurricane according to the conclusions of a study by World Weather Group is the global warming, that increased the rainfall intensity by 10-50% and made such heavy rains about twice as likely to occur. Without climate change, Milton would have hit Florida as a Cat 2 instead of a Cat 3.
Conseguences
The hurricane has caused 24 deaths and 3 million people without power, especially in areas where Milton made landfall, including Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties. Also, Milton brought the ocean’s fury ashore with several feet of storm surge, three months’ worth of rain in three hours in some areas and he tore apart homes, toppled trees, tossed boats and trucks and inundated roads.
