“Ethics and Economics,” the Book by President Daniele Damele Presented in the Senate: Sustainability, Energy, and Social Cohesion as a Compass for Decision-Making

The presentation of Ethics and Economics by Daniele Damele, hosted in the Sala Caduti di Nassirya of the Italian Senate, sparked discussion on the connection between ethical principles, economic decisions, and sustainability. The book collects an anthology of articles published in the monthly magazine of the Chamber of Commerce of Pordenone and Udine and offers a perspective on the economy in which ethics becomes the guiding criterion for both public and private choices.

Green New Deal, a crucial challenge

Damele, President of the Supplementary Health Assistance Fund (fasi) and of Federmanager Friuli Venezia Giulia, devotes significant attention in the book to the ecological transition, highlighting the Green New Deal as a structural, not episodic, process. In his contributions, economic development, environmental protection, and industrial policies are viewed as interdependent dimensions: sustainability, the author emphasizes, requires long-term vision, investments, and innovation, rather than fragmented interventions.

The press conference opened with a speech by Senator Massimo Garavaglia, President of the Senate Finance Committee, who thanked Damele for his reflective contribution and highlighted the need to place ethics back at the center of economics and fiscal policy, in a perspective capable of combining growth and social cohesion.

Energy and sustainabilty

Among the recurring themes in the volume is energy, identified as a strategic lever for the autonomy and sustainability of the production system: Damele emphasizes the need to reduce external dependencies and pursue a diversified mix in which renewables, innovative technologies, and transitional solutions coexist.

During the meeting, Gherardo Zei, Vice President of Federmanager, stressed the centrality of the relationship between ethics and economics for industrial management, as well as the link between sustainable development, welfare, and widespread well-being: profit and ethics, he reiterated, are not in conflict when decisions are responsible and oriented toward the long term.

The event was moderated by journalist Luca Guazzati. Among the speakers were Giuseppe Straniero, President of Previndai; journalist Giovanni Cerqueti; Edo Tagliapietra, President of the Federmanager Probiviri; and Alessandro Margiotta (Federmanager FVG). Overall, the presentation reinforced the book’s core thesis: without an ethical anchor, the environmental, industrial, and social transition risks losing direction and public support.
