A strong climate scepticism can be seen in our society. The ‘deniers’ are as much as one third of the world’s population. This is what emerges from research carried out by the University of Geneva among 7,000 people in 12 countries around the world.

The conclusion of the study shows that more needs to be done to counter climate change misinformation.

Unfortunately, reality shows, that there are many interest groups that play on the fact that messages on the issue are not neutrally absorbed. Rather, they are learned differently according to the culture and worldviews found within the society.

The research work took place through tree planting programmes, evaluations of scientific statements on climate change and discussions on possible causes and mitigation actions. The result precisely showed how disinformation is more persuasive than scientific information.
